Envelopes Macromedia Director application, 2004-5 Envelopes was created for VES 60r "Digital Expression" at Harvard and is intended for large-scale integration into a public space. The aesthetic was inspired by the beautiful mosaic patterns on city walls in Prague, many of which resemble envelope icons. This notion of a traveling document embedded into a surface inspired me to create this interface for the class's submission to "Interactive Wallpaper" at New Media Beijing in 2004. I designed this wall to take the place of the somewhat irritating "mirror wall" presently installed at Boston's Logan airport. Envelopes is a human-sized "chutes-and-ladders" game that reacts to the shadows of passing travelers; if a shadow obscures a box for too long, the wall changes "levels" and assumes different behaviors and colors. Here, the mouse takes the place of shadows and clicking represents touching or pressing on the wall. The little app above is doing its best, but you can have more fun if you click here to open the app in a new window. |
